ARTIST STATEMENT
Driving the familiar roads and highways of New England and beyond on travel adventures, I record videos and still images of the moving landscape through the windshield of my car. Within the liminal space of the moving car, visual awareness is constantly shifting. The car serves as a platform for interaction with the natural world; the enclosed bubble allows its viewer to move quickly through landscape without ever directly encountering its elements. What is remembered or forgotten from these car journeys? My paintings serve as both a travelog of my personal experiences and as a broader commentary on the way we as humans interact with the natural world.
