ARTIST STATEMENT
I am originally from Cali, Colombia. Since I was a child my world was understood by how I was able to capture my environment and feelings through art, painting on the walls of my home and "making my mother crazy but proud'. Then I started painting as a hobby while being a teacher and taking art classes with some of the best artists in my city. Later I attended the Art Cultural Institute of Cali.
I always integrated art with teaching and some of my students also became wonderful artists.
Art has been my best friend in all the stages of my life, my refuge in the more difficult times, and my happiness to relax in the good ones.
When I came to the United States I was unable to be a teacher. My art gave me some financial support as I was able to get commissions for murals, portraits, and landscapes. Now, as a nurse, I enjoy donating some of my free time through the Lions Club to students in my small town of Winchester, NH.
Oil painting is relaxing and allows me to express and communicate the peace and emotions I feel in observing nature. Art has been part of my soul since I was a child and it is my shelter and my happiness when I am by myself.
