I believe in timing - in that when we are ready for something, it will appear.  For me, that has manifested itself in the emergence of my latent artistic talent. How did I figure this out?  Never having painted before, at the ripe age of 56 in 2022 I took a group class in introductory painting for fun and out of curiosity at the suggestion of an artist friend.  Little did I know that after wrestling with a couple of paintings I would come to the conclusion that maybe I had something here!

While many of my friends and some of my family members have been blessed with the ability to pursue their artistry throughout their years, I went through many professional iterations working to be of service to others while developing my left-brain skills.  People around me have often wondered out loud, what are you up to NOW!  I get it!  Out of necessity, but also out of a true desire to make the most out of my life, I have worn many different hats and developed a variety of skills to support myself and my family as a single mom.  I may be a kind of renaissance woman having worked in many different capacities - police officer, salesperson, lawyer, real estate agent… and many other temporary jobs along the way.  And now I am an artist.

“I am an artist” is something that has come out of my lips in the past year, at first tentatively, and each time a little more confidently.  I am embracing the gift that was meant for me with determination, and I spend every free moment I can in front of the easel.  Essentially self-taught, I am obsessed, and time flies when I am painting while I don’t even notice its passing. My true desire is to paint portraits, which is not a surprise to me given that in my younger days I carried my Canon AE1 around to photograph people: interesting faces, people in action, athletes, and so forth.  As an artist I will continue to enjoy painting portraits of the Boston Celtics players - yes I am a die-hard Celtics fan, and it is a good time to be one!  I also have painted a number of pet portraits, some as gifts, some as commissions. But those are just a part of what I know is to come, and I can’t wait to see the works that I come up with in the next year and beyond!
