Byron Carr
ARTIST STATEMENT
Byron was inspired as a child by photos in old books he found in the attic of large paintings by the Hudson River School with small people standing in front of them. He took art classes and went to commercial art school. The building trades was his life time occupation. Creating unique projects from mantles and garden arches to storefronts in Concord NH is one of his other passions.
“I thought I was going to be an artist,” Byron said to himself at age 40. After spending many months re-learning how to draw, or, “dancing with pencils”, he learned watercolor and painted some that were 4ft x 6ft. A few years later He started with oils. Taking the Advice of Richard Whitney Byron started his journey painting on location. That was thirty years ago. His workshops and painting demonstrations are well attended and the most fun you can have watching paint dry. Another hat he wears is writing stories for kids and adults.
Byron’s painting central is the White Mountains where he has painted hundreds scenes ranging from the wide scenic views to the rocks and water of small streams or thunderous waterfalls. He has also painted on location around New England. Over the last 4 years his painting style has drifted into the realm of the Hudson River school. And yes, he wants to do one of those 8ftx12 paintings that inspired him so long ago.
