ARTIST STATEMENT
Almost every piece in my current collection of work, was started or completed while taking a group art class. I’ve taken classes at Kimball Jenkins, the Currier and MassCollege of art. As a freelance illustrator and painter, the camaraderie and environment that a class situation provides is fantastic. The ability to learn from instructors and fellow artists/students is incredibly valuable. Most or many pieces are inspired by my love of the outdoors. Several showcase the Concord trail system, as a Concord resident, l am grateful to spend a good bit of time out and about on those trails.
Originally a landscape architect, l worked for companies In Colorado and then New Hampshire, as a designer and illustrator. After a bit of a dip in the realestate market in the late eighties, l decided to do coursework for broader illustration skills. As a freelancer l’ve done cards, promotional pieces, website illustration along with three children’s book biographies as well.
When my children started participating in theatre productions in elementary school, l began volunteering to help with set painting. This developed into a much broader spectrum of painting. After years of volunteering, l have painted sets for area schools, RB Productions at Capitol Center for the Arts, Prescott Park and Community Players. These skills have proved valuable in my ability to produce murals as well, these have been done for private clients, the Mt Kearsarge Indian Museum and the YMCA preschool and kindergarten.
To Joe, Sylvia, Mike, Lee and my fellow artists/classmates at Kimball Jenkins- thank you! you inspire and motivate. To my husband and kids- thank you for always appreciating every piece, offering constructive criticism when requested and welcoming every cartoon that is sent your way.
